Science Pub Lecture: Peter Alagona- Concrete Jungle

November 13 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Free

Every second Monday the Santa Barbara Natural History Museum hosts Science Pub, a series of stimulating talks that occur in a casual, friendly environment. November will feature a lecture by environmental studies professor Peter Alagona entitled Concrete Jungle.

“Naturalists, philosophers, artists, and poets have long considered cities the antitheses and scourges of nature. Urban growth is a major driver of global biodiversity loss. Yet, over the past century, American cities have gone from having little, if any, large and charismatic wildlife to being full of it. From herons to hawks, from alligators to iguanas, and from coyotes to pumas, our diverse and dynamic cities are emerging as novel ecosystems in the Anthropocene. UCSB Environmental Studies professor Peter Alagona will explain how this happened and what it means for wildlife, people, and the urban habitats we all increasingly share.”

The event starts at 6:30, however arriving early is advised.
