Solar Assessment Internship
10 hours a week; $14 an hour
Mid-January through June 9th, 2017
Work-study preferred, but not required

UCSB Sustainability is seeking a current UCSB undergraduate student to review recent maps created by a Geography Graduate student highlighting the solar energy generating potential of the UCSB campus.  Though this student will not need to create GIS maps, a basic familiarity with ArcGIS is strongly preferred.

The student will be analyzing the solar energy map, determining the spaces on campus with the greatest solar potential, measuring sizes of those spaces (through ArcGIS), development reports for the project manager of the UCSB Climate Action Plan and the Campus Energy Manager, and developing findings on how much solar UCSB could plan for as we reach for climate neutrality.  Once analysis is complete, the student will also develop outreach materials and presentations on this material for the student body at large as well as for campus staff and administration.

Minimum Qualifications:
*Basic knowledge of ArcGIS (For example, if you have taken 176A in Geography that is great!)
*Strong verbal and writing skills
*Interest in communicating research to the public and to policy makers
*Outgoing personality and ability to engage an audience
*Ability to quickly engage in the project and create deliverables within a single quarter

Preferred Qualifications:
*Experience communicating about renewable energy to general public audiences and/or experience communicating research to the public

Apply immediately for first priority.  Applications will be reviewed as they are submitted.  Interviews will occur the week of January 9th.
