Congratulations to campus award winners at last week’s California Higher Education Sustainability Conference in Davis, CA. UCSB accepted the Energy Efficiency and Sustainability Best Practice Awards in the following categories:
1. Student Sustainability Program: Plastic Pollution Coalition
2. Sustainable Foodservice: Root 217
3. Sustainability Innovations: South Coast Sustainability summit
In other exciting conference news, AASHE (Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education) will be hosting their annual North American sustainability conference at the Los Angeles Convention Center. I’m also pleased to announce that the University Center has certified 4 more food service locations on campus through the Santa Barbara County Green Business Program. The Arbor, The Store at Buchanan, The Corner Store, and Nicoletti’s Coffee Shop all have achieved Green Business Certification this month. Lance Heather, Assistance Director of the University Center Dining Services applauded the internship team, Jeff Brydon and Adam Araza of PACES, for assisting with this process and achieving certification in record time- all 4 units in only 7 months!
