LabSYNC Point E-H5

Problem: Fume hoods are one of the greatest users of energy in the lab. If not in use for an extended period of time, they are essentially drawing large amounts of energy with no purpose.

Solution: If there are fume hoods in your lab that you know have not been used for an extended period of time, decommission the hood. They can always be recommissioned when needed.

In order to turn off your unused fume hoods, generally three conditions must be met:

– A negative air balance must be maintained

– The hood may not be used as chemical storage

– The users of the lab must be informed of the decommissioned status of the fume hood

Benefit: You can save thousands of dollars per year by decommissioning a fume hood.
