The Chancellor’s Sustainability Committee presented Heather Perry with this year’s Staff Citation of Excellence Award in Sustainability. A sustainable procurement analyst in the Department of Procurement Services for the last two years, Perry works on countless projects to green our Procurement on campus. This award specifically recognizes her work in developing the UC policy for Sustainable Procurement Guidelines.

Asked by the UCOP office of Energy & Sustainability to help write the procurement guidelines for the UC Sustainable Practices Policy, Perry spent months researching the green purchasing criteria for cleaning supplies, copy paper, compostable food service ware, and more. She has presented the new policy and guidelines in Oakland to UCOP Sustainable Leadership as well as to the Procurement Leadership Council.

Between her work with the UCOP Sustainable Work Group and our campus to increase sustainable spend, Perry has “filled a void we have had at UCSB in procurement (for almost a decade)” and is “moving initiatives forward with her leadership”, according to Director of Campus Sustainability, Mo Lovegreen.

Outside of work, Perry is “passionate about the environment” and is always “doing the right thing, reducing and avoiding waste, and using technology to its fullest advantage”, says UCSB Purchasing & Contracts Manager Calli Price. “There is not a day that goes by here in Procurement that one can hear Heather providing a sustainable tip, asking our campus suppliers to provide better reporting on sustainable products, or requiring our own office and purchasing practices to improve,” adds Price.

“Heather is already recognized as a sustainability leader within the UC system,” says Price. “Let us do her the honor of awarding her talents and efforts locally.” Please join us on congratulating Heather Perry on all her achievements!
