The Green Initiative Fund (TGIF) provides funding for projects which “green” our campus and reduce the University’s impact on the environment. Since this student-funded initiative began over ten years ago, TGIF has advanced over 100 projects that increase the amount of renewable energy used on campus, increase water and energy efficiency, and reduce waste at the University. The fund also provides critical support for carbon neutrality projects and UCSB’s goal to reach zero net greenhouse gas emissions by 2025.

“TGIF puts sustainability in the hands of students and staff and allows for innovation and personal commitment to show through in projects that enhance the sustainability of the whole campus” (Grant Recipient). The TGIF program empowers students to take direct action and come up with innovative solutions to solve our environmental problems. UCSB is committed to reducing its net greenhouse gas emissions to zero by 2025, and projects funded by TGIF have been and will continue to be extremely important in order for the campus to achieve this goal.
